New Delhi: Terrorists operating in Jammu and Kashmir will face either imprisonment or be sent to ‘jahannum’ (hell), declared Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. This statement comes amidst a surge in terrorist activities, which the minister assured will soon be eradicated.
Responding to Congress MP Pramod Tiwari’s supplementary question, Rai emphasized the Modi government’s unwavering stance against terrorism. He highlighted recent successes, stating, “In the past few days, 28 terrorists have been killed in Jammu and Kashmir, although we have also tragically lost some of our security personnel.”
Since the revocation of Article 370 in 2019, security forces have eliminated approximately 900 terrorists in the region, according to Rai. He reiterated the government’s firm position: “The Modi government has zero tolerance for terrorism. We will end terrorism. Terrorists will either be in jail or jahannum.”
Comparing the current administration’s record to the previous UPA government’s tenure from 2004-2014, Rai noted a significant reduction in terrorist incidents. During the UPA rule, there were 7,217 incidents of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. This number has dropped to 2,259 since the BJP came to power in 2014 until July 21 this year.
Rai urged the opposition not to politicize these issues, stating, “These incidents are unfortunate, but they should not be used for political gains.” He also pointed out the significant decrease in casualties and terror incidents since 2014, with a 67% reduction in deaths of citizens and security personnel and a 69% decrease in terrorist activities.
The minister assured that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are now living in a more peaceful environment with full security guarantees.
