New Delhi: Delhi is set to experience more rainfall following light to moderate showers in the early hours of Thursday, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an orange alert, signaling authorities to be ready for potential emergencies. The alert comes as a depression moves toward the National Capital Region (NCR), with isolated parts of Delhi expected to receive heavy rain, potentially leading to waterlogging in some areas.

The early morning showers caused the city’s minimum temperature to drop to 23.1°C, three degrees below normal for this time of year. Daytime temperatures are expected to rise to around 30°C, with overcast skies prevailing throughout the day.

According to an IMD update at 5:30 am, the depression was located over northwest Madhya Pradesh and southwest Uttar Pradesh, moving at a speed of 8 km/h. The weather department predicted that the depression would move slowly in a north-northeast direction over the next 24 hours, bringing widespread rain to Delhi. Gusty winds, reaching speeds of 30 to 40 km/h, are expected to persist until Friday.

Several areas in Delhi recorded moderate rainfall, with Safdarjung receiving 16.3 mm of rain between Wednesday and Thursday morning. Other regions like Palam (8.5 mm), Lodhi Road (16 mm), Ayanagar (15.7 mm), Pitampura (13.5 mm), and Mayur Vihar (13 mm) also saw notable precipitation.

So far, Delhi has received 96.2 mm of rain in September, while the long-period average for the month stands at 123.4 mm.

The IMD continues to monitor the situation using Doppler Weather Radars in Delhi and Lucknow, keeping a close watch on the movement of the depression and its impact on the region.
