New Delhi: Following his release on bail granted by the Supreme Court, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Sunday that he will resign from his position in two days. Addressing party workers, Kejriwal declared his intention to step down and stated that he would only return to the chief minister’s chair if re-elected by the people in the upcoming elections.

“I will not occupy the CM’s chair until the people deliver their verdict,” Kejriwal said. “I will visit every house and street, and I won’t resume my duties until I receive a mandate from the public.”

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief demanded that the Delhi Assembly elections, originally scheduled for February, be advanced to November to coincide with the Maharashtra elections. “I urge that elections be held in November alongside the Maharashtra polls,” he added. “Until the elections are conducted, someone else from the party will serve as the Chief Minister. In the next 2-3 days, we will hold a meeting with our MLAs to decide on the interim CM.”

Kejriwal also clarified that Manish Sisodia would not assume the chief ministerial role during this period. “Both Sisodia and I will go directly to the people,” he emphasized.

Criticizing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Kejriwal asserted that their strategies could not undermine AAP’s steadfast determination. He responded to the BJP’s demands for his resignation while he was incarcerated, stating, “I did not resign from jail because I wanted to protect the Constitution of India. I aimed to thwart their formula. The Supreme Court questioned the central government on why a government cannot function from jail. The SC proved that a government can operate even when its leader is imprisoned.”
