New Delhi: BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has apologized for her controversial remark advocating the return of the three farm laws, which were repealed following massive farmer protests in 2021. Speaking in her Lok Sabha constituency, Mandi, on Tuesday, the actor-politician expressed regret and acknowledged that her views should align with the BJP’s stance.
“I know this will be controversial, but I feel the farm laws should be brought back. The farmers themselves should demand it,” she said, a comment that led to swift backlash from various political parties and sections of the public.
Following her statement, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia clarified that Ranaut was not authorized to speak on behalf of the party regarding the farm laws. “Her views are personal and do not represent the BJP’s stand,” he said.
Kangana Ranaut Apologizes
In response, Ranaut apologized, saying, “I regret and take my words back if my comments have disappointed anyone.” She emphasized that, as a BJP worker, she must consider the party’s position in her statements and not just her personal opinions.
Political Criticism
Her comments sparked reactions from the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate condemned the idea of reviving the farm laws, reminding the public of the over 750 farmers who lost their lives during the protests. “These black laws will never be brought back,” she vowed.
AAP leaders Balbir Singh and Malvinder Singh Kang also criticized Ranaut, with Singh calling her comments “comedy” and urging people not to take her seriously. Malvinder Singh Kang added that discussing the reinstatement of the laws is “an insult to millions of farmers.”
This controversy comes just ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections, with tensions around the farm laws still lingering among the farming community.
