New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s planned visit to Pune on Thursday was cancelled due to heavy rainfall that has severely impacted the city. Pune experienced 131 mm of rainfall on Wednesday, marking the highest 24-hour September rainfall in 86 years. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Thursday, predicting continued heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.

The previous record for September rainfall was set on September 21, 1938, with 132.3 mm. The final rainfall data starting from 8:30 am on Wednesday will be released on Thursday and may surpass the historic 1938 figure.
