Raebareli: A major train accident was narrowly averted in Raebareli district, Uttar Pradesh, after loco pilots of a passenger train noticed a heap of soil dumped on the railway track. The incident took place near Raghuraj Singh station during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday (October 6-7).
After spotting the obstruction, the loco pilots immediately alerted authorities, leading to the swift removal of the soil from the tracks and the resumption of rail traffic along the route.
An official from Raebareli Police stated, “A small pile of soil was dumped on the railway track, which caused a shuttle train from Raebareli to be stopped.” The source of the soil was linked to ongoing road construction in the area, where dumpers transport soil during nighttime hours. According to the locals, one such dumper driver mistakenly dumped the load onto the tracks and fled the scene, said police official Devendra Bhadoria.
A police investigation into the matter is ongoing to determine the full circumstances behind the incident.
This comes shortly after two other train-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh in September. In one case, an LPG cylinder was discovered on the tracks near Kanpur’s Perambur Railway Station, prompting quick action from the loco pilots to avoid a potential disaster. In another instance, the Kalindi Express struck an LPG cylinder placed on the tracks, but a timely response from the train’s pilot minimized the impact.
