Ranchi: Gangster Aman Sahu, currently serving a prison sentence, will not be able to contest the upcoming elections from the Barkagaon constituency, as the Jharkhand High Court has rejected his petition. Sahu, who is serving time for criminal convictions, had filed a petition seeking permission to participate in the elections.

On Thursday, Justice Sanjay Dwivedi of the High Court heard arguments from both Aman Sahu’s legal counsel and the state government. After considering both sides, the court dismissed the petition, denying Sahu the right to contest in the elections.

Aman Sahu’s lawyer, Hemant Kumar Shikharwar, argued on his behalf. Sahu is serving two sentences – one of six years from a case in Ramgarh and another of three years from a case in Latehar. While Sahu has completed his sentence for the Latehar case, he requested the court to suspend his sentence, allowing him to contest the elections. However, the court has refused his request.
