Patna: Police clarified on Saturday that Faizal Khan, popularly known as ‘Khan Sir,’ was not arrested or detained following an unauthorized protest by BPSC aspirants near the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) office. Khan voluntarily visited the police station to express solidarity with the demonstrators, according to police officials.

The protests erupted over modifications to the regulations for the 70th BPSC Preliminary Examination scheduled for December 13. On Friday, police resorted to lathi charges to disperse the protestors.

Police Denounce Misinformation

Anu Kumari, Secretariat’s sub-divisional police officer, dismissed claims circulating on social media about Khan’s alleged arrest. “No such arrest took place. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the social media account ‘Khan Global Studies’ for spreading false information,” she stated.

Strict action will be taken against individuals responsible for inflammatory and baseless content aimed at provoking candidates, the police warned.

Khan Sir’s Voluntary Visit

The police detailed that Khan voluntarily visited the Gardanibagh police station to meet the magistrate and discuss concerns raised by the aspirants. He later requested the officers to escort him to his car parked near Atal Path, which they complied with.

City SP (Central) Sweety Sehrawat confirmed that two FIRs have been lodged. “One FIR targets student leader Dileep Kumar and others involved in the unauthorized protest, identified through CCTV footage. Another FIR is against the handler of the ‘Khan Global Studies’ account for spreading fake news,” Sehrawat said.

Protests and Aspirants’ Concerns

The protests gained momentum after Khan Sir and Guru Rahman supported the aspirants, who raised concerns about the “normalization” process potentially affecting candidates in tougher circumstances. The BPSC clarified that there are no plans to introduce normalization in the 70th exam.

The incident has sparked debates over misinformation on social media and its impact on protest movements, as authorities strive to maintain order amidst growing tensions.
