New Delhi: Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a year-end address, acknowledged that Russia should have launched its military operation in Ukraine earlier and with better preparation. Referring to the 2022 invasion as a “special military operation,” Putin emphasized the importance of “systemic preparation” for such actions, suggesting that prior readiness could have altered the course of the conflict.

“Should Have Invaded Ukraine Earlier,” Says Putin

Putin admitted, “Knowing what’s happening now, back in 2022, I would’ve thought the decision ought to have been taken earlier. We should have started preparing for these developments and the special military operation before.”

Updates on the Russia-Ukraine War

During the four-hour address, broadcast across Russian state media, Putin claimed significant progress by Russian forces. He described his troops as “heroes” reclaiming territory on a daily basis. “Movement is occurring along the entire front line, every day,” he said, asserting that these advances represent tangible gains.

Putin’s Call for Peace Talks and Compromise

While highlighting military gains, Putin expressed openness to peace talks, stating, “We have always said that we are ready for both talks and compromise.” He mentioned his willingness to negotiate, hinting at potential discussions with US President-elect Donald Trump.

“Politics is the art of compromise,” he remarked, signaling a possible path forward in resolving the ongoing conflict.

Russia’s Nuclear Doctrine and Challenges to the West

Putin also reiterated Russia’s revised nuclear doctrine, which allows for nuclear strikes under certain conditions. He challenged Western nations to consider Russia’s enhanced military posture, mockingly suggesting they test their air defense systems by intercepting Russian missiles targeting Kyiv.

Domestic Concerns Amid External Conflicts

Putin addressed domestic issues, including inflation and rising consumer prices, noting the importance of stability within Russia. “Maintaining internal equilibrium is key while navigating external pressures,” he emphasized.
