Dubai: India sealed their record-breaking third Champions Trophy title with a tense four-wicket victory over New Zealand in the 2025 final at Dubai International Stadium on Sunday. While Rohit Sharma’s brilliant 76 set the foundation, India faced nervous moments in the middle, with the chase going down to the final over. However, KL Rahul’s unbeaten 34 guided the team home, ensuring India remained undefeated throughout the tournament.
KL Rahul’s Honest Confession
After steering India to victory, KL Rahul admitted the pressure got to him in the final moments of the chase.
“Not sure I can say this on air, but I was s**** myself. As confident as I could be, I knew I had to get over the line. Keeping composure is all that matters, and I’m happy I could do it this time.”**
Rahul further praised the team’s ability to thrive under pressure, attributing their resilience to the rigorous cricketing culture in India.
“We’ve all faced pressure from the time we became professional cricketers. The BCCI has groomed us well, and we continue to challenge ourselves to get better.”
India’s Hard-Fought Chase
Chasing 252, India got off to a flying start, thanks to Rohit Sharma’s aggressive 76 off 83 balls and a crucial 48 from Shreyas Iyer. However, New Zealand spinners tightened the grip, pushing the game into the final overs.
With India at 183/3 in the 38th over, a mini-collapse saw wickets tumble, leaving KL Rahul (34 off 33 balls)* to play the finisher’s role. His calm presence, coupled with Hardik Pandya’s breezy 18-run cameo, ensured India crossed the line with six balls to spare.
Indian Spinners Dominate Again
Winning the toss and opting to bat first, New Zealand posted 251/7 in 50 overs. Daryl Mitchell (63), Michael Bracewell (53), and Rachin Ravindra (37)* were the key contributors for the Kiwis.
India’s spinners Kuldeep Yadav (2/40) and Varun Chakaravarthy (2/45) were instrumental in restricting the New Zealand batting lineup, ensuring the target was well within reach.
India’s Historic Champions Trophy Feat
This victory makes India the most successful team in Champions Trophy history, winning the tournament three times (2002, 2013, 2025)—a feat unmatched by any other side.
“Winning this title without losing a single game shows the dominance of this team,” said an elated Rohit Sharmaafter the win.
India’s flawless campaign further cemented their reputation as the most formidable force in world cricket.
