Nagpur: Three days after violent clashes erupted in Nagpur, the curfew has been lifted in some areas and relaxed in others to allow residents to buy essential items, officials confirmed on Thursday.

The violence broke out on March 18 in central Nagpur after rumors spread that a ‘chadar’ with holy inscriptions was burnt during protests led by the VHP and Bajrang Dal demanding the removal of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tombin Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district.

Curfew Lifted in Some Areas, Partial Relaxation in Others

After reviewing the law and order situation, Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravinder Singal ordered the lifting of curfew in Nandanvan and Kapil Nagar police station areas from 2 PM on Thursday.

Additionally, curfew restrictions were partially relaxed in the following areas for a two-hour window (2 PM to 4 PM):

• Lakadganj

• Pachpaoli

• Shantinagar

• Sakkardara

• Imambada

This will allow residents to purchase essential goods while ensuring that security measures remain in place to prevent further escalation.

Curfew Imposed After Widespread Violence

Following the unrest, curfew was imposed in 11 police station areas, including:

• Kotwali

• Ganeshpeth

• Tehsil

• Lakadganj

• Pachpaoli

• Shantinagar

• Sakkardara

• Nandanvan

• Imambada

• Yashodhara Nagar

• Kapil Nagar

Security Remains Tight in Sensitive Areas

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, and security forces remain deployed across the most sensitive zones to prevent any resurgence of violence.

Further decisions on lifting restrictions in the remaining areas will be taken based on public safety assessments by the administration.
