BJP Spokesperson Rafia Naaz Slams Jharkhand Government Over Declining Student Enrollment

Ranchi: BJP state spokesperson Rafia Naaz has launched a sharp attack on the Jharkhand government over the deteriorating quality of education in the state and the steep decline in student enrollment in government schools. She warned that the drop of nearly nine lakh students over three years poses a serious threat to the state’s future.

Cites UDISE Report

Naaz referred to the UDISE (Unified District Information System for Education) report, which states that while 79,70,050 students were enrolled in 2021–22, the number dropped to 72,09,261 in 2022–23, and further to 70,97,545 in 2023–24. She attributed this decline to the shortage of teachers, lack of basic facilities in schools, and reduction in the education budget.

Severe Teacher Shortage in Government Schools

Naaz further pointed out that the condition in government schools is dire, with many functioning with just one teacher. “Out of the 7,642 government schools in Jharkhand, a large number operate with only a single teacher who is solely responsible for educating hundreds of students. Over 3.78 lakh students are studying in these schools, their academic future resting on the shoulders of just one educator,” she stated.
