Ranchi: In a strong move to reinforce cleanliness in the city, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) will begin imposing fines on those who litter in public places from April 1, 2025. The initiative comes as part of a comprehensive campaign to enforce solid waste disposal norms, including legal action for repeat violations.

Municipal Commissioner Sandeep Singh held a review meeting directing officials to ensure 100% door-to-door garbage collection and to act strictly against those discarding waste illegally. Special monitoring teams will be deployed across the city to track violations in real-time.

Key Instructions and Restrictions:

1. Littering in Open Areas Strictly Prohibited

• RMC officials and sanitation workers will maintain strict surveillance.

• Discarding garbage on streets, alleys, markets, and public places will invite penalties.

2. Strict Rules for Hotels, Shops, and Apartments

• Commercial establishments must manage their waste properly.

• A 150-ton-per-day capacity CBG (Compressed Bio Gas) plant, built in collaboration with GAIL, will be used for waste processing.

3. Public Awareness Campaign

• Awareness will be spread via social media platforms (WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).

• Announcements through loudspeakers and banners will inform citizens of new rules.

Penalties for Violations

Repeat offenders, including individuals or establishments found littering, will face heavy fines. In the case of repeated violations by apartments, hotels, or shops, their licenses may be revoked.

Special teams will conduct continuous surveillance and act swiftly on public complaints.
