Ranchi: With the arrival of the monsoon in India, Jharkhand’s weather has shifted dramatically. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued a warning predicting heavy rain and lightning across several districts. Showers have already begun in many areas, accompanied by gusty winds, offering a much-needed respite from the heat.

Daily weather shifts across Jharkhand

In Ranchi, mornings begin with sunshine, but by afternoon, moderate rain often sets in with thunder. On May 28, rainfall varied across the state—some regions saw light showers, others experienced intense rainfall coupled with strong winds. The IMD has asked citizens to remain cautious, as rain activity is expected to persist from May 28 through June 1.

Temperature and rainfall observations across districts

Highest rainfall was recorded in West Singhbhum and Seraikela, with maximum temperatures touching 36°C. In Deoghar, Dhanbad, Koderma, Jamtara, and East Singhbhum, temperatures peaked at 35°C. Giridih, Pakur, Chatra, Latehar, Hazaribagh, and Simdega hovered around 34°C. Dumka and Sahibganj recorded 33°C, Ranchi and Khunti had the lowest maximum temperatures at 32°C.

District-wise rainfall forecast

May 28: Showers are likely in Gumla, Simdega, Khunti, West Singhbhum, East Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan, and parts of Ranchi. Isolated heavy rain is possible in southern and adjoining districts. May 29: Northeast and southeast Jharkhand may experience heavy rainfall. All districts in Santhal Pargana are expected to receive showers. May 30: Heavy rainfall likely in northeastern parts including Giridih, Deoghar, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Jamtara, Dumka, Godda, Sahibganj, and Pakur, where moderate rain is also expected.

IMD urges precautions amid lightning threat

The weather department has advised people to take precautions, especially during lightning. Farmers working in fields, commuters, and those in open areas are advised to stay alert and seek shelter when necessary. Authorities also recommend staying indoors during thunderstorm activity to avoid potential hazards.
