Ranchi: New political dynamics are taking shape in Jharkhand. Both the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and the Congress are putting in extra effort in regions where they have traditionally been weak. While JMM is pushing its tribal identity and Sarna religious code agenda, Congress is focusing on Scheduled Castes (SC) and has started raising related concerns prominently.
Strategic Moves by JMM
The JMM has begun strengthening its presence in constituencies where it previously held little influence. One key example is the Lohardaga seat, historically a Congress stronghold. JMM has now brought Neeru Shanti Bhagat, a former AJSU leader, into its fold. The party is also trying to bring Aquil Akhtar, the MLA from Pakur, under its umbrella.
Congress Working Hard at the Grassroots
Aware of JMM’s moves, Congress is pushing forward with its own strategy. The party has intensified its efforts to strengthen its organizational base. The state in-charge and the Pradesh Congress Committee president are actively holding meetings and attending programs across various districts.
Separate Agendas, Parallel Protests
While both parties are technically allies, they are taking to the streets over different issues.
JMM is rallying support over the Sarna Religious Code. Congress, on the other hand, is mobilizing on SC-related concerns.
Both parties are engaging in protest activities to consolidate their respective voter bases.
Possibility of New Alliances and Equations
As both parties continue to work on their unique strategies, the possibility of new political equations forming in Jharkhand grows stronger. It remains to be seen which party will emerge stronger in the upcoming Assembly elections.
