Ranchi: The Jharkhand government is preparing to take a significant step toward strengthening its healthcare services through advanced technology. A Central Radiology Hub is set to be developed at Ranchi’s Sadar Hospital to make radiology services like X-rays, CT scans, and MRI scans uniformly accessible across all parts of the state.

Digital Connectivity for Faster Reports

Ajay Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary of the Department of Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare, shared details of the plan, explaining that the hub will digitally connect all government hospitals in the state. Through this system, even patients in remote areas will be able to receive accurate and rapid radiological reporting via a digital platform.

Two-Phase Implementation Plan

Ajay Kumar noted that the project will be executed in two phases. In the first phase, all district Sadar hospitals will be connected to the central hub. This is expected to benefit districts facing a shortage of radiologists, ensuring timely reports for patients and avoiding delays in treatment.

24×7 Teleradiology Services

The hub will function as a 24×7 teleradiology reporting center. Expert radiologists stationed there will assess X-rays, CT scans, and MRI images and send digital reports directly to respective hospitals and patients.

Cost and Advanced Training

The project is sanctioned at a cost of ₹1,21,27,100 (twelve million one hundred twenty-seven thousand one hundred rupees). Additionally, technicians will undergo specialized training to efficiently operate advanced radiological equipment.

Project Goals and Healthcare Boost

According to Ajay Kumar, the primary objectives of this initiative include reducing turnaround time (TAT) for radiological examinations, bridging healthcare disparities between urban and rural areas, promoting AI-based imaging technologies, and strengthening healthcare infrastructure. He further emphasized that this effort will enhance the diagnostic capabilities of CHCs, SDHs, and referral hospitals across Jharkhand. Areas struggling with a lack of radiologists will particularly benefit, as timely online reports will facilitate quicker detection and treatment of serious illnesses.
