Tragedy in Udhampur: CRPF Bus Falls Into Gorge, 3 Jawans Killed, Several Injured

Udhampur: A tragic road accident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district claimed the lives of three CRPF personnel and left at least 15 others injured after a bus carrying them plunged into a gorge near Kandva in the Basantgarh area on Thursday.

Immediate Rescue Operation Launched

As per Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Udhampur, Sandeep Bhat, police teams rushed to the scene shortly after the accident and launched rescue operations. The injured were shifted promptly to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Union Minister and J&K LG Respond

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh expressed deep concern over the incident via a post on X (formerly Twitter). He said, “Disturbing to receive the news of a road accident involving a CRPF vehicle in the Kandva–Basantgarh area. The vehicle was carrying several brave jawans.”

He added that he had spoken to Udhampur Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai, who is personally monitoring the situation. “Rescue measures have been initiated immediately. Locals have voluntarily come forward to assist. All possible help being ensured,” Singh stated.

Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also shared his condolences, writing, “Saddened by loss of CRPF personnel due to an accident near Udhampur. We will never forget their exemplary service to the nation. My thoughts are with bereaved families. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. Directed senior officials to ensure the best possible care & assistance.”

More Details Awaited

The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined, and an investigation is likely to be initiated. Meanwhile, officials continue to monitor the situation and ensure necessary support for the affected families and injured personnel.
