Patna: Bihar minister Ashok Choudhary took a jibe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday, saying he should thank Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for improving the state’s roads, which made the upcoming ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ possible.
Minister’s Remark on Road Infrastructure
Choudhary stated that Bihar’s roads, once in poor condition, have been significantly upgraded under Nitish Kumar’s leadership. He remarked that Rahul Gandhi is able to take out such a large-scale yatra only because of the improved infrastructure and should be grateful for the same.
Congress-Led Yatra and Opposition’s Allegations
The Congress party is launching the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ from Sasaram, in protest against the Election Commission’s special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The Congress, along with INDIA bloc allies, has alleged large-scale voter exclusion and “vote theft”. Senior leaders including RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, former deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, and Rahul Gandhi are expected to participate in the event. Preparations are underway in Patna and surrounding areas.
Tejashwi Yadav on Purpose of the Yatra
Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav said the campaign will focus on raising awareness among voters whose names have been excluded from the electoral list. He emphasized that the Mahagathbandhan aims to ensure no voter is left out and cited a Supreme Court order directing the Election Commission to publish details of the 65 lakh excluded names. Calling it a “historical journey,” Tejashwi said the yatra will also highlight local issues and present the alliance’s vision for governance if voted to power.
