Former Nepal PM KP Oli Says Infiltrators Fueled Protest Violence, Urges Unity To Defend Constitution

Kathmandu: Former Nepal prime minister KP Sharma Oli has claimed that violent clashes during last week’s Gen Z-led protests were provoked by “conspirators who infiltrated” the demonstrations, insisting that the government never ordered firing on protesters. In a Facebook post on Constitution Day, Oli said the investigation must determine how “automatic weapons, which the police did not possess,” were used, resulting in youth deaths.

Clarification On Firing During Protests

Oli said the rallies were intended to be peaceful but were hijacked by intruders who sparked violence. He expressed grief over the loss of young lives and wished speedy recovery to the injured, stressing that responsibility for the gunfire should be fixed through an impartial probe.

Warning About Attacks On Constitution

The CPN-UML leader described the crisis as a “major attack” on Nepal’s constitution and sovereignty. He noted that after his resignation, government offices, courts, businesses, political party premises, and private homes were vandalised, while Singha Durbar was set ablaze and the national map targeted.

Appeal For National Solidarity

Oli urged citizens to resist narratives undermining Nepal’s democratic institutions, likening the moment to historical episodes where internal discord harmed the nation. He called for all generations to unite to protect sovereignty and uphold the constitution, calling them “the armor of our freedom.”
