Hyderabad: Continuous heavy rainfall in Hyderabad and several districts of Telangana on Tuesday disrupted normal life, leading to flight diversions, waterlogging, and massive traffic congestion. The state government, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, convened a high-level review meeting to assess the situation and direct emergency preparedness.

Government Response and Emergency Measures

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy instructed all departments to remain on high alert, with special focus on monitoring low-lying areas prone to flooding. He directed officials to ensure that emergency response teams from GHMC, HMWSSB, NDRF, and SDRF remain fully mobilized. The CM also postponed the scheduled inauguration of Amberpet Batukamma Kunta and several sewage treatment plants to September 28 in light of the situation.

Traffic Advisory and IT Corridor Impact

The heavy rains created severe bottlenecks in the city’s IT hub, prompting the Cyberabad Traffic Police to advise major corporate and IT firms to allow employees to work from home. Officials stated the move was necessary to ease congestion, ensure safety, and allow emergency services to move freely through high-density traffic zones.

Air Travel Disruptions

The downpour also hit operations at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), where at least three IndiGo flights from Kolkata, Mumbai, and Pune were diverted to Vijayawada due to poor visibility. Airline and airport authorities urged passengers to monitor flight schedules and leave early for the airport, given heavy road traffic across the city.
