Araria: Political tensions flared in Bihar after BJP finalised its candidate list for the upcoming assembly elections. Senior party leader and National Parashuram Parishad convenor Ajay Jha attempted self-immolation after being denied a ticket from the Narpatganj constituency. His family members and supporters intervened in time to prevent a tragedy.
Jha’s Anger Over Ticket Denial
Wearing a funeral shroud to express his outrage, Jha accused the party of betrayal. He said he began his political career with the Youth Congress in 1985 and had worked tirelessly for the BJP for the past 25 years. Jha claimed that senior BJP leaders, including Minister Mangal Pandey, Union Minister Nityanand Rai, and state president Dr. Dilip Jaiswal, had assured him of a ticket in the next assembly elections during the Lok Sabha polls. However, he said the party went back on its word, first promising him a ticket from Jokihat and then changing the candidate.
Allegations of Caste-Based Ticket Distribution
Jha criticised the BJP for favouring caste equations over hard work. His wife, Sanju Jha, also lashed out at the party leadership, saying her husband had been repeatedly overlooked despite his dedication. She added that if Narpatganj was reserved for Yadavs and Forbesganj for Banias, the party should openly display such caste-based allocations.
