Ranchi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a statewide protest over the shocking incident in Chaibasa, where thalassemia-affected children were allegedly transfused with HIV-infected blood. Calling it a massive failure of Jharkhand’s health system, BJP leaders held demonstrations across districts and submitted memorandums to the Governor through Deputy Commissioners, demanding a CBI or High Court-monitored judicial inquiry into the matter.
BJP Slams State Government, Calls for Health Minister’s Dismissal
During an election rally in Ghatshila, BJP state president and Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi accused the Hemant Soren government of putting lives at risk. “This government is not serving life, it is serving death. Poor patients go to government hospitals hoping for treatment but are given death in return,” Marandi said.
He added that the Centre had alerted Jharkhand on January 13, 2021, about irregularities in blood banks and warned against illegal operations and blood trading. “Despite repeated warnings, the state government ignored the issue for four years,” Marandi alleged.
Negligence and Corruption in Health Department
The BJP memorandum stated that the state’s health department has become “a house of death” due to negligence and corruption. It alleged widespread irregularities in blood bank monitoring, claiming that the Chaibasa case may be part of a larger statewide network of contaminated blood transfusions.
Party leaders further accused the department of rampant corruption in tenders and outsourcing, sale of banned drugs, and deliberate delays in file approvals for commission-based kickbacks. They demanded that all responsible officials be jailed, the Health Minister be dismissed, and a high-level investigation be conducted into the entire blood bank system.
BJP Vows Continued Protest Until Justice
The BJP vowed to continue its agitation until justice is served, calling the incident “a cruel betrayal of public trust.” The party asserted that Jharkhand’s people would not forgive a government that “plays with the lives of the poor.”
