Mirzapur: A tragic accident occurred at Chunar railway station in Uttar Pradesh on the occasion of Dev Deepawali, when six women devotees lost their lives after being hit by the Kalka Express. The women were on their way to Varanasi to take a holy dip in the Ganga River for Kartik Purnima celebrations.
The Tragic Incident
According to reports, a passenger train had arrived at Platform No. 4 of Chunar station, from which several women and men disembarked. Instead of using the foot overbridge to reach Platform No. 1 for their connecting train to Varanasi, some of them attempted to cross the tracks directly. At that moment, the Kalka Express approached at high speed, fatally hitting the group. Witnesses described the horrific scene, saying the victims were thrown several meters away and panic spread across the station.
Immediate Response and Investigation
Following the incident, SDM, Additional Superintendent of Police, and other senior officials rushed to the site. The station was cordoned off as authorities conducted rescue operations and cleared the area. Although initial reports mentioned six fatalities, local sources suggest the death toll could be as high as eight.
CM Yogi Adityanath’s Condolence and Orders
Taking note of the tragedy, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased. He has directed officials to ensure proper medical care for the injured and to extend all possible assistance to the victims’ families.
