Ranchi: The Union Home Ministry has initiated a major restructuring of security deployment in Jharkhand, under which several battalions of central armed forces will be relocated to other states. Additionally, five districts will be removed from the Security Related Expenditure (SRE) scheme, meaning these districts will no longer receive special financial assistance from the Centre for security operations. Following this directive, Jharkhand Police Headquarters has begun reviewing the current deployment of forces involved in anti-Naxal operations and law-and-order duties.

Proposal to Shift Central Armed Forces to Other States

At present, Jharkhand hosts multiple central paramilitary battalions. As part of the revised security strategy, three of these battalions—two from the CRPF and one from the SSB—are proposed to be redeployed outside the state. With reduced central force presence and the removal of SRE support, the police headquarters has deemed it necessary to reassess the deployment of Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP), India Reserve Battalion (IRB), Special IRB, and SAP units across the state.

High-Level Committee Formed for Statewide Security Review

To conduct a comprehensive review, a high-level committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of the IG, Jharkhand Jaguar. The committee includes the DIG of Jharkhand Jaguar, the DIG of JAP, and the SP of the State Intelligence Branch.

The committee has been tasked with examining three core areas:

• Assessing the necessity of currently deployed forces based on Naxal, criminal, and law-and-order vulnerability.

• Reviewing the strength of forces posted at district-level posts and pickets.

• Identifying posts and pickets that are no longer required and can be shut down.

The committee has also been directed to coordinate with zonal IGs, range DIGs, district SPs, and senior officials of CRPF and SSB operating in Jharkhand to ensure an accurate and collaborative assessment.
