Washington, D.C.: US President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will “permanently pause migration from all Third World countries”, citing national security concerns following a recent shooting near the White House in which National Guard trooper Sarah Beckstrom was killed and another remains critical. Trump said the move will allow the US system to “fully recover” and drastically reduce what he labeled “illegal and disruptive populations”.

Trump Says American Immigration System Must Be Reset

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that technological advancement in the US has been undermined by its immigration policy. He pledged to terminate all admissions made during Joe Biden’s presidency, deport non-citizens who are “not a net asset to the United States”, and revoke citizenship of migrants who “undermine domestic tranquility”. He further vowed to end federal subsidies and benefits for non-citizens and warned that anyone “incapable of loving America” would not be allowed to remain. Trump asserted the need for “reverse migration” to fix the situation.

Washington Shooting Sparks Nationwide Debate on Immigration

The announcement follows the killing of 20-year-old National Guard member Sarah Beckstrom and the critical injury of trooper Andrew Wolfe, allegedly by Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal. The suspect moved to the US after the 2021 American withdrawal from Afghanistan. Shortly after his arrest, the Department of Homeland Security paused processing immigration requests related to Afghan nationals. Trump referred to the 2021 Kabul airlift, calling it an “unchecked influx” that put Americans at risk.

Population, Benefits and Crime — Trump Expands Argument in Thanksgiving Message

In another post, Trump claimed that 53 million foreigners are currently living in the US, blaming refugee migration for “urban decay, crime, failed schools, overcrowded hospitals and rising deficits”. He alleged that migrants receive government benefits greater than the wages they earn, and used Minnesota as an example of what he described as demographic “takeover”. Trump ended his remarks with a confrontational Thanksgiving message attacking “politically correct” nations and domestic critics of his immigration stance.
