New Delhi: The Rouse Avenue Court has provided temporary relief to the Lalu Prasad Yadav family by postponing the order on framing charges in the high-profile land-for-job scam case. The court has directed the CBI to verify the status of all accused and file a report, as four individuals named in the case have died during the course of proceedings. The next hearing is now scheduled for December 8, where a final decision on framing charges is expected.

Next Hearing On December 8 Critical For Case Outcome

Special CBI Judge Vishal Gogne had earlier reserved the order on November 10 and deferred it to December 4. Today again, the court postponed the decision, shifting focus to the upcoming December 8 hearing. If the court finds sufficient grounds to frame charges, the Lalu family will face a major legal challenge. If not, the family may secure significant relief due to lack of evidence.

What Is The Land-For-Job Scam Case?

According to the CBI, between 2004 and 2009 — when Lalu Prasad Yadav served as the Union Railway Minister — 12 individuals allegedly secured Group-D jobs in the Railways without advertisement or proper recruitment process. In return, land parcels in Patna were registered in the names of Lalu Prasad’s family members, including Rabri Devi, Misa Bharti and Hema Yadav, at undervalued prices paid in cash. The chargesheet names 103 accused, including the Lalu family; four of them have since passed away.

CBI vs Defence Arguments

The CBI asserts that the case reflects clear corruption and abuse of official position, pointing to land deeds, cash transactions and statements from alleged beneficiaries as key evidence. The defence maintains that the allegations are politically motivated and that the land deals were lawful transactions unrelated to railway appointments. The December 8 hearing is expected to shape the direction of the case, with political observers closely watching developments.
