Ranchi: The disappearance of two minor children from the Dhurwa area of the capital has triggered a political storm, with Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi accusing the Jharkhand Police of failing the public and acting at the behest of the Chief Minister.
Delay in Recovery Raises Serious Questions
Babulal Marandi said that even after a week, the police have failed to safely recover the missing children, exposing serious lapses in governance and policing. He alleged that if an FIR had been registered promptly and investigation tools like dog squads were deployed in time, the situation could have been different. He pointed out that the High Court taking suo motu cognisance reflects the gravity of the matter.
Police Accused of Political Bias
The opposition leader accused the police department of being accountable not to the public but to Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s personal interests. He described the prevailing law and order situation in the state as “jungle raj,” claiming that incidents of kidnapping, robbery and murder are on the rise, leaving citizens fearful and insecure.
Demand for Accountability and Immediate Action
Marandi further alleged that instead of ensuring public safety, the police are indulging in extortion. He demanded that responsibility be fixed in the case and that the government ensure the immediate and safe recovery of the missing children, warning that continued inaction would further erode public trust.
