Ranchi: RIMS Dental Institute, Ranchi, has once again showcased its academic excellence as four BDS students from the institute have been selected under the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Short Term Studentship (STS) Scheme 2024.
About the ICMR-STS Scheme
The ICMR-STS scheme is designed to promote research aptitude among undergraduate medical and dental students across the country. Selected candidates are required to complete a research project, after which they receive a scholarship of Rs 30,000 upon successful evaluation of their final report.
Highly Competitive National Selection
In 2024, ICMR introduced new evaluation criteria to make the selection process more transparent and quality-driven, ensuring fair assessment of academic merit and genuine research interest. This year, nearly 7,000 applications were received nationwide, out of which only 398 medical and 108 dental research projects were selected. Amid such intense competition, the selection of four third-year BDS students from the 2021 batch of RIMS Dental Institute is considered a significant achievement for Jharkhand.
Selected Students and Research Guides
The selected students include Sneha Raj, guided by Prof. Dr. Prashant Gupta; Sanyogita, under the mentorship of Dr. Ankita Tandon; Shalini, guided by Dr. Sandeep; and Aman Aditya, mentored by Dr. Sonal Sehgal. Their selection reflects the strong research culture and academic support system available at the institute.
Institutional Appreciation
RIMS Director Prof. Dr. Rajkumar, Dean Prof. Dr. Binde Kumar, and Dean (Research) Prof. Dr. Pradeep Bhattacharya congratulated the students and their research mentors. They credited the achievement to the institute’s robust research environment and dedicated faculty guidance, and wished the students continued success in their academic and professional journeys.
