Kanpur: Police have arrested Shivam Mishra, son of tobacco businessman KK Mishra, in connection with the Lamborghini crash on Kanpur’s VIP Road that injured three people. The arrest came four days after the incident, despite earlier claims from the family that Shivam was in Delhi for treatment.
Arrest Made From Kanpur, Not Delhi
Police said Shivam Mishra was arrested from Kanpur on Thursday morning. This contradicted KK Mishra’s earlier statement that his son was in Delhi receiving medical care. After the arrest, Shivam was produced before the court.
Driver Claim Rejected, Police Say Shivam Was Driving
Shivam’s lawyer had earlier claimed that the Lamborghini was being driven by a driver named Mohan M., a resident of Dwarka, Delhi. However, the police report submitted in court stated that Mohan was not an accused in the case. Investigators said evidence so far indicates Shivam Mishra was driving the vehicle during the crash.
Court Rejects Driver’s Surrender Plea
The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (VII) rejected the surrender application filed for Mohan on Wednesday. The prosecution argued that Mohan’s name was not even mentioned in the case, making the surrender request irrelevant. The court accepted the police position and dismissed the plea.
Private Agreement With Complainant Presented in Court
A legal agreement dated February 8 was also shown in court, allegedly between complainant Mo. Taufiq and Mohan. The agreement stated that Mohan had paid medical expenses and that the complainant did not want further legal action. It also claimed the settlement was made without pressure. However, the court did not treat this as sufficient, since Mohan was not listed as an accused in the case.
Lamborghini Release Plea Pending, Court Seeks Technical Report
The car owner’s lawyer also filed an application seeking the release of the damaged Lamborghini from the police station. The court asked police to submit a technical examination report, which will be conducted by the RTO. The court also directed the car owner to present vehicle documents to the investigating officer.
Lawyer Plans Revision Petition
Mohan’s lawyer stated that police are wrongly implicating Shivam and insisted that Mohan was the driver. He said a revision petition will be filed before the District Judge against the court’s order rejecting Mohan’s surrender application.
