Bhopal: The Congress party is organising a major ‘Kisan Mahachaupal’ in Bhopal on Tuesday to protest against the US trade deal, with senior leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge scheduled to address the gathering. The event is being positioned as a show of solidarity with farmers and workers allegedly affected by the agreement.
Massive Gathering Planned at Jawahar Chowk
The rally is being held at Jawahar Chowk in Madhya Pradesh’s capital, where a dome with a seating capacity of around 50,000 people has been prepared. Party sources said Rahul Gandhi is expected to arrive in Bhopal around 2:30 pm. The Mahachaupal is aimed at mobilising farmers and raising concerns over the impact of the US trade agreement on agriculture and domestic industries.
Rahul Gandhi’s Allegations on Trade Deal
Ahead of the event, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Prime Minister had “sold the country” through the US trade deal. He claimed that the agreement compromised national data security and adversely affected farmers, the textile sector, and employment opportunities. He described the development as “shameful” and further alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was concerned about issues related to Adani in the United States.
Kharge Targets Government Over Employment and Policy
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, before departing for Bhopal, criticised the Modi government in Delhi, stating that youth across the country are struggling to find employment. He claimed there is growing public dissatisfaction with the Prime Minister. Kharge further alleged that the government accepted conditions imposed by former US President Donald Trump under pressure, leading to international embarrassment and decisions that he described as harmful to farmers and national interests. He asserted that Congress would not be intimidated and would continue its protest.
