Aston Villa sealed their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League with a dominant 4-2 victory over Liverpool at Villa Park in the 37th week of the English Premier League, moving up to fourth place in the standings.

Villa’s goals came from Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins with a brace, and John McGinn, while Liverpool responded through Virgil van Dijk who scored twice. Villa retook the lead by capitalising on a costly Szoboszlai error, with Watkins converting the opportunity. He then grabbed his second goal with a quick reaction in the six-yard box from a rebound. McGinn added a fourth to put the match firmly beyond Liverpool’s reach.

The victory took Aston Villa to fourth place with 62 points from 37 matches. Liverpool, now with 59 points from 37 games, dropped to fifth place, putting their Champions League qualification hopes under pressure with one match remaining.
