Aston Villa sealed their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League with a dominant 4-2 victory over Liverpool at Villa Park in the 37th week of the English Premier League, moving up to fourth place in the standings.

Goals That Decided the Match

Villa’s goals came from Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins with a brace, and John McGinn, while Liverpool responded through Virgil van Dijk who scored twice. Unai Emery’s side showed aggressive football throughout, with Rogers opening the scoring in the 42nd minute after being set up by Lucas Digne on the left side of the penalty area.

Liverpool Briefly Equalised

Liverpool dominated large portions of the first half and equalised early in the second through captain Virgil van Dijk, who headed home from a Dominik Szoboszlai free-kick in the 52nd minute. Young Liverpool substitute Rio Ngumoha came close to turning the match further but his long-range shot struck the post.

Villa Regained Control and Sealed It

Villa retook the lead by capitalising on a costly Szoboszlai error, with Watkins converting the opportunity. He then grabbed his second goal with a quick reaction in the six-yard box from a rebound. McGinn added a fourth to put the match firmly beyond Liverpool’s reach.

Standings After the Match

The victory took Aston Villa to fourth place with 62 points from 37 matches. Liverpool, now with 59 points from 37 games, dropped to fifth place, putting their Champions League qualification hopes under pressure with one match remaining.
