Thiruvananthapuram: Congress Legislature Party leader VD Satheesan was sworn in as Chief Minister of Kerala on Monday at a ceremony held at Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. Governor RV Arlekar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Satheesan and a 20-member cabinet, marking the formation of a new UDF government led by Congress.
Senior Leaders Attend the Ceremony
The swearing-in was attended by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Chief Ministers of three Congress-governed states, and Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar. Notably, former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar, and IUML leader Sayed Sadiqali Shihab Thangal also attended the event.
Key Cabinet Appointments
Senior leader Ramesh Chennithala will serve as Home Minister. Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Sunny Joseph and several Congress MLAs including K Muralidharan, Anoop Jacob, CP John, AP Anil Kumar, Bindhu Krishna, M Liju, KA Tulasi, OJ Janish, T Siddiqui, PC Vishnunath, and Rosy M John have been inducted into the cabinet. Five IUML MLAs — PK Kunhalikutty, N Shamsuddeen, KM Shaji, PK Basheer, and V Abdul Ghafoor — have also been made ministers.
Assembly Posts Announced
Senior Congress leader Thiruvananchoor Radhakrishnan will serve as Speaker of the Assembly, while Shanimol Usman has been appointed Deputy Speaker.
