BCCI has imposed a fine on Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya for a Code of Conduct violation during the IPL 2026 match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians on Wednesday, after he angrily knocked over the stumps during the game.
What Happened on the Field
The incident occurred after the fourth ball of the 10th over in the second innings, when Hardik Pandya, while walking back to his run-up, forcefully knocked over the stumps in a fit of anger. The act was deemed a violation of IPL’s Code of Conduct under Article 2.2, which relates to the misuse of cricket equipment, ground equipment, or fittings during a match.
Fine and Demerit Point Imposed
Hardik has been fined 10 percent of his match fee and has also been handed one demerit point. He has accepted the sanction given by match referee Rajeev Seth and acknowledged his mistake. As per IPL rules, a player accumulating 4 to 7 demerit points can face a one-match suspension.
MI Lose the Match, Already Out of Playoffs
KKR chased down the target of 148 runs with 7 balls to spare, handing MI another defeat. Hardik bowled just 2 overs, taking no wickets and conceding 13 runs. The five-time champions have already been eliminated from IPL 2026 playoff contention, winning only 4 matches and sitting ninth in the points table. MI’s final IPL 2026 match will be against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday.
