Ranchi: Former Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) chairman L. Khyangte arrived at the CID office on Monday, where officials began questioning him over alleged irregularities in the 14th JPSC Civil Services Examination and other recruitment exams conducted by the commission.

Khyangte Appears Following CID Notice

The CID had issued a notice directing Khyangte to appear for questioning on July 28, and he reported to the CID office as instructed, after which the interrogation began. The CID is investigating large-scale irregularities in appointments made through JPSC, and has already arrested several individuals in connection with the case, including alleged kingpin Abhay Tiwari. JPSC member Shweta Gupta has told the CID that all irregular activities were carried out on the chairman’s instructions.

CID Gathers Additional Evidence Ahead of Questioning

Sources said the CID has independently gathered several facts that will guide further action following Khyangte’s questioning, which is the primary reason he was summoned by investigators. Lagatar Media had earlier revealed that information about irregularities in around 500 OMR sheets had been shared with Chairman Khyangte nearly six months prior, but he took no action on it. CID officials are expected to question him specifically on why he failed to act despite receiving this information.

Earlier Raids Conducted at Khyangte’s Residence and JPSC Office

Prior to this, the CID had raided Khyangte’s government residence on Kanke Road as well as his office at JPSC. The nearly five-hour operation involved the examination of several documents and questioning, during which searches were also carried out at the JPSC office and at the office of the examination-conducting agency, TSR Data Processing Private Limited (TDPL). During the raids, the CID seized documents related to recruitment exams, OMR sheets and digital evidence from computers at the JPSC office, along with key records related to the examination process from the TDPL office.

Khyangte Resigned Following the Raids

L. Khyangte had assumed charge as JPSC chairman on March 6, 2025, and resigned from his post following the raids. With his questioning by the CID now underway, the investigation into the matter is expected to move forward.
