The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Indian squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, with newcomers Gurnoor Brar and Saransh Jain earning their maiden Test call-ups.
Brar and Jain Earn Selection After Strong Domestic Form
Gurnoor Brar has recently impressed with strong performances in ODI cricket, while Madhya Pradesh off-spinner and left-handed batter Saransh Jain has also delivered impressive domestic performances, earning both players their place in the squad based on recent form.
Sundar Ruled Out Injured, Jadeja Makes Comeback
All-rounder Washington Sundar has been left out of the squad due to injury, having been hurt during the England tour and not yet fully fit. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja returns to the Test squad for the Sri Lanka tour, having earlier been rested for the solitary Test against Afghanistan.
Bumrah, Sai Sudharsan’s Selection Subject to Fitness Test
Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and batter Sai Sudharsan have also been included in the squad, though their participation will depend on clearing fitness tests, with both set to feature only if found fully fit.
Full Squad for Sri Lanka Tour Announced
India’s Test squad for the tour comprises Shubman Gill (captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Sai Sudharsan, Dhruv Jurel (wicketkeeper), Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Devdutt Padikkal and Saransh Jain.
Series Schedule: Two Tests in August
The first Test between India and Sri Lanka will be played in Galle from August 15 to 19, while the second and final Test will take place in Colombo from August 23 to 27. Team India will depart for Sri Lanka on August 4 and will play a four-day warm-up match in Colombo starting August 7.
