New Delhi: The Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die on Thursday, marking the final day of the Monsoon Session, after which Speaker Om Birla hosted the customary tea party following the conclusion of proceedings.
Congress, SP, TMC and Most INDIA Bloc Parties Skip the Event
Reports indicate that Congress, Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress and most other constituents of the INDIA bloc boycotted the traditional tea party. Interestingly, leaders from the DMK, a key opposition party, chose to attend the event.
PM Modi, Senior Ministers Present at the Gathering
According to sources, Prime Minister Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and several senior government ministers were present at the tea party. A senior Congress leader confirmed that leaders from Congress, SP, TMC and other parties had chosen not to participate in the event.
Tradition Marks the End of Each Parliamentary Session
It has long been a tradition for the Lok Sabha Speaker to host a tea party after proceedings are adjourned at the end of a session, typically attended by the Prime Minister, Union ministers and senior leaders from both the ruling party and the opposition. In the Rajya Sabha, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former party chief Sonia Gandhi and other opposition leaders attended the tea party hosted by Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan.
