New Delhi: MPs from INDIA bloc parties took out a protest march from Parliament House on Tuesday against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, but were stopped by police with barricades before they could reach the Election Commission’s office.
Police Barricades Halt the March Near Nirvachan Sadan
The MPs headed towards the Commission’s office after leaving Parliament House, but police stopped them near Nirvachan Sadan. In protest against being halted, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Akhilesh Yadav and other opposition MPs sat on a dharna outside the NITI Aayog building. Rahul Gandhi also climbed a barricade and waved the Tricolour.
“Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod” Slogans Raised
The spot is roughly 200 metres from the Election Commission headquarters. The MPs began raising slogans of “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod” against CEC Gyanesh Kumar. In view of the INDIA bloc’s demonstration, a heavy police force has been deployed at the Election Commission office and surrounding areas.
