New Delhi: The BJP has declared Union Minister and former IFS officer Hardeep Singh Puri as its Rajya Sabha candidate from Madhya Pradesh, a key decision on his continued membership of the House. The party’s Central Election Committee approved his name for one Rajya Sabha seat from the state, where the by-election will be held on November 12.
Seat Vacated After L. Murugan’s Resignation
Puri’s current Rajya Sabha term ends on November 25, which had led to speculation that his ministerial post was at risk. On Wednesday, the BJP fielded him for the seat that fell vacant after L. Murugan’s resignation. Puri is currently a Rajya Sabha MP from Uttar Pradesh.
Speculation Over Ministerial Future Likely to End
The BJP had recently announced its candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, but Puri’s name was missing from that list, prompting political speculation that he would lose his ministerial berth. This nomination may now put those rumours to rest.
