Ranchi: Ranchi passengers travelling to Pune have limited direct-train options, as the Hatia-Pune Superfast Express runs only two days a week and has no pantry car on its roughly 30-hour journey.
Only Two Departures a Week
Train number 22846 Hatia-Pune Superfast Express leaves Hatia at 8 pm on Mondays and Fridays and reaches Pune at 2:15 am on the third day. The rail distance between the two cities is about 1,768 km. People travelling to Pune for study, jobs, business or other urgent work depend on this train. On other days, they must look for connecting trains or change their travel dates, which is especially difficult for families with luggage and elderly passengers.
No Pantry Car on the Long Route
The train has no pantry car, so passengers must rely on food available at stations en route or on e-catering services, and have to plan their meals in advance for such a long journey.
Demand for New Train, Amrit Bharat Proposal Awaits Approval
A demand for a new train from Hatia/Ranchi to Pune has already been placed before the railways. In April 2026, Arun Joshi, a member of the South Eastern Railway’s Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (ZRUCC), sent a proposal to the Railway Board to run an Amrit Bharat train on this route. He also suggested a Shalimar-Pune train via Tatanagar. Joshi said a new train would add to passenger convenience, and approval from the Railway Board is awaited. More direct trains would give passengers more options, and better catering on the existing train would ease long-distance travel.
