Dhanbad, Aug 3: Two snatching incidents in broad daylight in heart of the coal city have exposed the security cover of Dhanbad police as the entire district is virtually turned into a police cantonment since July 28 after the death of district and session judge-8 Uttam Anand in a road accident.
Police personnel are deployed at all key points in the coal city and all CCTV cameras of police administration at all exit and entry points of the township are activated since the road accident in which Uttam Anand had died. Despite it, police are yet to arrest any criminal in this connection even 24 hours after the incident.
Bike-borne criminals looted Rs 2 lakh from a retired employee of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) Arjun Beldar while going from the bank at Godhar, At the same time, another group of bike-borne criminals snatched Rs 50 thousand from a contractor Tarkeswar Mahto at Hirapur market.
Interestingly at the time of crime incidents, several top brasses of Jharkhand police were present in coal city. Additional director general of police (ADG) Sanjay Anand Lathkar, Inspector General (IG) Priya Dubey were holding Special Investigating Team (SIT) meeting at Dhanbad circuit house over probe into the district and sessions judge’s death.
Additional superintendent of police (ASP) Manoj Swargyari, who is monitoring additional charge of law and order in the absence deputy superintendent of police (DSP), when contacted said that at present he was discharging other responsibility ( probe of judge accident case). “So I can’t say anything about it,” said ASP Swargyari.
A senior police officer said no doubt the district has been turned into a police camp but entire machinery is engaged in investigation of the district and session judge road accident case as the report had to be submitted in the High Court.
“ Snatching was an act of local criminals and they would be arrested soon. Kenduadih police team on basis of Canara Bank CCTV footage is conducting raids at different places of suspected criminals”, the official said.
