Dhanbad, Aug 5: The CBI team of the Delhi crime branch led by Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP)  Vijay Kumar Shukla on Thursday began the probe into Dhanabd District & Sessions Judge  Uttam Anand’s death in a road accident.

Besides visiting the accident spot, six members of the team also reached Dhanbad Sadar police station and discussed with senior police officers of the district who were involved in the probe conducted by the Special Investigation Team(SIT).

A senior police officer said besides the Dhanbad Sadar police station, CBI team members also visited accident-related different places and interrogated people concerned with it. At the Sadar police station, the CBI team took information from City Superintendent of Police R Ramkumar, Additional Superintendent of Police  Manoj Swargyari, and Officer-in-Charge Vinay Kumar. All these police officers were also members of the SIT.

The CBI team had reached Dhanbad on Wednesday and took over the case from Dhanbad Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) cum SIT  member Sanjiv Kumar.

The team has started the investigation after lodging an FIR naming auto driver  Lakhan Verma and his accomplice Rahul Verma as accused under IPC Section 302. Both the accused are in jail after five days’ police remand ended on Tuesday last.

Anand was killed in a road accident in the early morning of July 28 at Randhir Verma Chowk near the district court under Sadar police station while he was on a morning walk at around 5 am. The CCTV footage of the accident showed an auto (three-wheeler) that came from the right lane of the road to the left lane and hit him from the back.

On July 30, the state government had recommended the central government for a probe by the CBI after the High Court and the Supreme Court took cognizance of the judge’s death. The CBI team has also brought forensic experts with it from New Delhi.
