Ranchi, Aug.5: Now having knowledge of the regional and tribal language is a must to get a government job in Jharkhand.

The state cabinet, which today discussed and passed 27 proposals from different departments, took a decision to this effect while discussing rules for recruitment for government jobs through the Jharkhand State Staff Selection Commission.

It was decided that each candidate desirous to work in the state should have knowledge of local culture, language, and tradition and they will have to score at least 30 percent marks in a regional and tribal language whose marks will be added at the time of preparation of merit list. T

The regional and tribal languages which a candidate can opt for state-level examination include Mundari, Kharia, Ho, Santhali, Khortha, Panchpargania, Bangla, Urdu, Kurmali, Nagpuri, Khurukh and Odia. For district-level examinations, separate language will be notified by the government according to the district.

The cabinet approved examination in one stage unlike the previous system of organising recruitment tests in two stages, first preliminary test (PT) and second Main.

As far as English and Hindi are concerned, it will be a qualifying paper, and marks obtained in the subject will not be added while preparing the merit list. Unlike the previous system of obtaining 30 percent each in each subject, a candidate will be declared qualified if he or she obtained 30 percent aggregate in both papers.

For recruitment in the matriculation level examination, candidates who have done their matriculation from any recognised school in the state will be eligible.

For the department examination, the cabinet gave relaxation in the typing test. Unlike the previous rule of having a speed of 30 words per minute in Hindi with 1.5 percent permissible limit of error on a computer, the cabinet now allowed 25 words per minute in English with a 2 percent permissible limit of error.

The cabinet also approved three names for the members of JPSC. The names include Ajita Bhattacharya, associate professor of Lala Laxmi Narayan Degree College, Allahabad, Anima Hansda, Assistant Professor of Santhali at Gossnor College, and Jamal Ahmed, head of Urdu Department of St Columba’s College, Hazaribagh.

Other decisions included the appointment of PhD qualified and UGC Net Qualified candidates besides retired PG teachers on a class basis for imparting education to students pursuing their post-graduation courses in different colleges and universities

The decisions included approval of Rs 3 crore for voter ID, the extension of fast track court for two years to handle the cases of rape and sexual assault of children, service condition of member secretary and chairman of Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board besides Rs 63.75 crore for construction of 20.35km road in Jamtara and Rs 88.46 crore for construction of 21.11 km road at Palamu.

Other decisions included approval of the schedule for the monsoon session of assembly scheduled from September 3 to September 9, and construction of 7.2km road in Latehar, 17.6km in Chatra, 44.4km in Pakur, 8.8km in Dumka, and 12.01km in Jamtara.
