Dhanbad, Aug 19: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanjiv Kumar on Thursday directed all petrol pump dealers of the district to strictly implement the ‘no helmet, seat belt no fuel’ rule from Friday.

The police administration would take legal action against the petrol pump managers if anyone violates the order.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) traffic cum district road safety nodal officer Rajesh Kumar said that a fresh order has been issued to the petrol pump managers in the wake of rising road accidents and for reducing death cases in the district.

In the Dhanbad district total of 172 fuel refilling centres of different oil companies are operating.

“Besides stopping fuel,  the SSP has also directed all petrol pump managers to put up hoarding of ‘No helmet, no petrol’ and ‘no belt seat, no petrol’ with immediate effect for awareness of people,” said DSP, traffic, Rajesh Kumar.

The DSP traffic said as per guidelines of the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety, on March 27 last, all petrol pumps had been ordered to put up hoarding for awareness of people but no one implemented.

The SSP today also directed all police stations of the district to check petrol pumps under their jurisdiction and ensure hoarding of ‘no helmet/seat belt no petrol’.

Meanwhile, the Jharkhand Coalfield Dealers Association (JCDA) has appreciated the step of the SSP and said the petrol pumps would cooperate.

JCDA  general secretary Sanjiv Rana said that petrol pumps have already been implementing ‘no helmet no petrol and no mask no petrol’ rule. Now from tomorrow ‘no seat belt no petrol’ rule would also be followed strictly, he added.

“We face no problem in implementing the order in the township but in rural areas, people create trouble due to lack of awareness. So, we request the police administration to launch awareness about the order in rural pockets,” said Sanjiv Rana.
