Dhanbad, Aug 23: Deoghar police on Monday cracked down on cybercriminals and arrested 14 of them from different rural pockets of the district in 12 hours’ operation. The police also seized 23 mobiles phones and other items from their possession.
This was the second time Deoghar police have arrested cybercriminals from the district in a week. Earlier, on August 17 a joint team of police and cyber police station had arrested eight criminals and seized 21 mobile sets. Rs 1.90 lakh cash was recovered from a criminal Noor Md also.
Deoghar Sub Divisional Magistrate(SDM) Pawan Kumar and deputy superintendent of police ( cyber) Neha Bala jointly informed media persons that on getting a tip-off joint teams conducted raids and arrested 14 cybercriminals from different villages of four police stations.
Besides 23 mobile phones, police teams also seized 52 SIM cards, two ATM cards, passbooks, chequebooks each and one laptop from their possession. “ Interrogation of arrested cybercriminals is still under progress. Police are also searching their bank accounts and property they have earned from cheating,” officials said.
SDM Pawan Kumar said the accused were arrested in Bardehi village under Patharadda OP, Patherghatiya village under Palajori police station, Kapsa village under Sarath police station, and Dindkoli village under Karro police station. All the arrested cybercriminals had been active for the last two years and cheated people inside and outside the state.
The SDM said the arrest of 22 criminals within a week would help in destroying the syndicate of cybercriminals operating in the district.
