Ranchi, Sept. 8: Police resorted to lathi-charge to stop progress of the BJP workers towards assembly to protest against the allotment of a place of offering Nazam in state assembly premises.
The situation came around 1.40pm after the BJP workers led by BJP legislature party chief Babulal Marandi and state president as well as Rajya Sabha member Deepak Prakash reached to the second barricading near Jagannathpur temple close to assembly premises after crossing the first barricade despite warning of dire consequences of the district administration.
Following the lathi charge the group of BJP workers marching towards the Assembly did not disperse and Marandi, Prakash besides other senior BJP leaders including Ravindra Rai, Arti Kujur and Aditya Sahu sat on dharna on the spot.
Before the lathi charge, water cannons were also used to stop the progress of BJP workers, who were adamant to reach the assembly premises despite the presence of hundreds of security personnel to enforce the prohibitory order of the district administration due to the assembly session.
