Ranchi, Sept.10: At least 10 people sustained injuries following a baboon attack during the last 10 days in Pushu hills, Pithoria, about 25km from here.

A locality resident informed this saying most of the injured are undergoing treatment at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS). “Following baboon attack, villagers are afraid of going to that area for even agricultural purposes,” the resident said, sharing the problem.

The area comes under the Kanke range of the forest department. Contacted concerned range officer Chandra Shekhar Azad for his comment on the matter, he admitted the problem saying steps have been taken to sort out it.

“Pushu hills are already famous for bears and baboons. There was no serious report of disturbance earlier but during the last 10 days I am receiving complaints. Apparently, a new baboon from another area entered there 10 days ago. After his entrance, reports of injury started coming. Though villagers claim many, I have so far received only three cases of injuries and provided compensation of Rs 5000 to each injured,” Azad said admitting the problem.

Asked about the steps taken to capture the trouble maker, range officer Azad said: “A cage has been brought and professional support is being taken to capture the baboon. It is expected that the trouble maker will be captured within a day or two.”
