Dhanbad, Sept 14: In the wake of viral fever deaths in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, the Jharkhand health department has directed conducting a special survey of fever cases from tomorrow (September 15 to September 29) across the state.

Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), health, Arun Kumar Singh has in this regard directed civil surgeons of all 24 districts to conduct fever surveys through Sahiyas, Multi-Purpose Workers (MPWs) and Auxiliary Nurses Midwives  (ANMs) and ensure proper treatment if any case of Dengue, Chikungunia, encephalitis is found.

“Since cases of viral fever are found on a large scale in neighbouring states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, in wake of the Corona pandemic it is a matter of concern. So fever surveys would help us in tracing dengue, chikungunya, encephalitis and getting their proper treatment,” said the ACS, health, in his directive.

The death of children has been reported on a large scale in Patna of Bihar and different districts of Uttar Pradesh due to viral fever.

Following the order of the ACS, health,  Dhanbad civil surgeon (CS) Dr Shyam Kishore Kant has directed all registered (around 300) private nursing homes of the district to reserve five beds for fever affected children and get nursing staff trained for operating a ventilator, oxygen cylinder and radiant warmer.

For combating viral fever the civil surgeon held a meeting with  Dr  Avinash Kumar, paediatric head of the department Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (NMMCH), Dr Vikash Rana, nodal officer cum district child reproductive health care (RCH) officer and district consultant of vector-borne disease (VBD) Ramesh Singh and chalked out a plan of screening fever cases and their treatment.

“All the private nursing homes and clinics have been directed to report immediately to the Integrated Diseases Surveillance Programme (IDSP) department about the child and adult patients bearing signs of cold, cough, malaria, dengue, Chikungunia who come for screening and treatment, so that the state government and central government could be informed,” said the Civil Surgeon.

VBD district consultant Ramesh Singh said the health department has already brought equipment for conducting Elisa test of fever patients free of cost at NMMCH.
