Celebration turns into tragedy as 7 girls drown during ‘Karma Puja’ immersion in Latehar

Latehar, Sept.18: Seven girls aged 12 to 20 drowned in a pond in Jharkhand’s Latehar district on Saturday. The girls went to the pond for the immersion ceremony following Karma Puja. Of the seven dead, three are sisters.

According to Deputy Commissioner Abu Imran, the incident occurred in Bukru village, under the Balumath police station. Teams of rescuers were dispatched to the scene. The police have taken all the dead bodies in their possession. Some individuals were also hurt, and three of them were sent to the hospital. Imran also said that the district’s Deputy Development Commissioner has been ordered to conduct an investigation.

Names of the deceased:

  1. Rekha Kumari, 18 years
  2. Lakshmi Kumari, 8 years
  3. Reena Kumari, 11 years old (father of all three is Aklu Ganjhu)
  4. Meena Kumari, 8 years old, (father – Laldev Ganjhu)
  5. Pinky Kumari, 15 years old, ( father- Jagan Ganjhu)
  6. Sushma Kumari, 7 years old, (father- Charan Ganjhu)
  7. Sunita Kumari, 17 Years, (father- Late Bifa Ganjhu)

All of them belong to Sheregada, Tola Manandih, Thana Balumath under Latehar district.
