Former Union Minister and former BJP MP Babul Supriyo joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Saturday. Interestingly it was only 48 days ago when he resigned from BJP and announced his retirement from politics. Babul had said that he was not going to any other party. “I have always been a member of BJP and will remain so,” he had said.
Today, Supriyo was given the membership of TMC by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee and party MP Derek O’Brien. Supriyo had left the BJP after the reshuffle in the Union Cabinet 48 days ago.
After joining TMC, Babul Supriyo held a press conference.
“All this has happened in the last 4 days. The people of Bengal have faith in Mamta and I have joined TMC for work. Today is a big day for me. I have got a chance to serve the public. I am proud of my decision,” said Babul Supriyo.
TMC’s Kunal Ghosh expressed happiness over Babul Supriyo joining the party. Ghosh said that many BJP leaders are in touch with the TMC leadership. “They are not satisfied with the BJP. One (Babul Supriyo) joined today, the others want to join tomorrow. This process will continue. People should wait and watch,” he added.
